Something special is happening in the heart of Dorset this September. On Saturday 6th September, from 10am to 4pm, Bere Marsh Farm near Shillingstone, will host its very first farmers' market – a celebration of local produce, artisan craftsmanship, and the vibrant community that makes our corner of England so special.

In an age of global supply chains and anonymous supermarket shelves, there's something satisfying about knowing exactly where your food comes from. When you shop local, you're not just buying produce – you're investing in your community's future, supporting families who pour their passion into what they create, and reducing the environmental impact of long-distance transportation.

Local shopping means fresher ingredients that haven't travelled hundreds of miles to reach your table. It means supporting farming methods that care for the land rather than exploit it. And it means building relationships with the people who grow, bake, brew, and craft the things that nourish us.

Attending the market are:

The Jam Guy brings the essence of seasonal fruit captured in beautifully crafted preserves – perfect for spreading summer's sweetness well into the autumn months.

White's Delights ensures that everyone can enjoy freshly baked treats with their selection of gluten-free cakes and biscuits, proving that dietary requirements never mean compromising on flavour.

Gold Hill Organic Farm Shop arrives with baskets brimming with organic vegetables, grown with respect for the soil and the seasons, delivering nutrition you can taste.

For those seeking a tipple to toast the occasion, Pothecary Gin offers their organic, handcrafted spirits – each bottle a testament to their passion for artisan quality.

Meanwhile, Nobby's Cider brings the pure taste of Dorset orchards, using only the freshest, juiciest local apples.

Ella's Flower Farm adds natural beauty to the mix with dried flowers and bouquets grown using nature-friendly methods, bringing the colours and scents of the countryside into your home.

Even our four-legged friends haven't been overlooked. Mikey's Dog Rescue Dog Treats offers homemade goodies that show our pets the same care we show ourselves.

Udder Farm Shop contributes its homemade meat pies, while Hannah's Bakery brings the ancient craft of sourdough baking to your table, and we'll have plenty of bags of  The Watercress Company's peppery green produce available, too.

Spoons of Dorset adds richness with their flavoured butters, and we're hopeful that Pamphill Ice Cream will be able to join us to provide the perfect sweet ending to your market haul.

The Dorset Lavender Farm Project will showcase their fresh produce, including honey from North Dorset Beekeepers – a collaboration that embodies the spirit of local partnership and shared passion for the land.

This market is a celebration of the connections that bind communities together – the relationship between the land and those who tend it, between producers and the people who appreciate their craft, and between neighbours who recognise that supporting each other creates something stronger than the sum of its parts. At Bere Marsh Farm, you'll have the chance to speak directly with the people who grow your vegetables, bake your bread, and craft your drinks.

Mark your calendars for Saturday 6th September, and make your way to Bere Marsh Farm between 10am and 4pm. Please note that car parking is limited, so we encourage some of you to embrace the environmentally-friendly spirit of the day by walking or cycling to the farm. After all, your feet and bicycle are the greenest transport options of all!
