CRT sponsors National Hedgelaying Championships We’re delighted to announce this year we are one of the sponsors of the National Hedgelaying Championship and County Show. The event will take place on October 4 at Waddesdon Estate in Buckinghamshire, organised by the National Hedgelaying Society. The charity is dedicated to maintaining the traditional skills of hedgelaying, something the CRT fully supports and carries out across its properties with our volunteers. We are sponsoring the South of England Intermediate Class. The event will see hedge layers from all over the UK come together to compete for the title of “Supreme Champion”. Danielle Dewe, the CRT’s CEO, said: “We are proud to sponsor this prestigious event, promoting education and the role of hedge laying in preserving our countryside and I am looking forward to attending on October 4. “At the CRT, we carry out hedgelaying across our properties, providing habitats and sustenance, while also protecting the soil, cleaning the air and absorbing carbon emissions. “A well-laid hedge doesn’t need extra fencing and the time and skills hedgelaying requires are definitely worth the benefits to both people and wildlife.” The National Hedgelaying Championships at Lark Rise Farm in 2018 Volunteers hedgelaying (and dead hedging where gaps were) in hazel hedge at Turnastone Court Farm, November 2024. The CRT previously hosted the National Hedgelaying Championship in 2018 at Lark Rise Farm in Cambridgeshire, which was featured on Countryfile and judged by Dame Judi Dench, partner of CRT Trustee, David Mills, MBE.
