Fungi foray - Autumn 4 Join us for an autumnal fungi discovery at Bere Marsh Farm Led by expert mycologist Andy Knott from Jurassic Coast Mushrooms, we'll explore a variety of habitats at Bere Marsh Farm, looking for the many species of fungi which grow there. From the tiniest emergent mushrooms so easily overlooked to the flamboyant Fly Agaric, Andy will help identify what we find and share fascinating fungi facts along the way. In the past, the farm has been home to some nationally rare fungi species, including Lacquered Bracket (Ganoderma lucidum), Medusa Mushroom (Agaricus bohusii), Oak Bracket Fungus (Pseudoinonotus dryadeus) and Wrinkled Peach Mushroom (Rhodotus palmatus), and we hope to see some of these rarities and more again on this walk. We'll return to the Threshing barn at 12.30 where Andy will lead an identification session of the fungi seen on the walk. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available. About Andy Knott Andy Knott, one half of Jurassic Coast Mushrooms, has a background in foraging and identifying wild mushrooms. His goal, and that of his business partner, is the cultivation of rare native mushrooms for local businesses and rewilding projects, helping improve biodiversity and support the UK’s unique fungal ecosystems. Andy has a permanent base at Duck Farm Workshops in Puddletown, so along with the fresh mushrooms and cloning, Jurassic Coast Mushrooms sell myco cultivation products for home growers, medicinal mushroom products and regular mushroom cultivation workshops to share expert knowledge. Andy enjoys taking groups out to teach others about the magical world of mushrooms, but the vital message which underpins all his activities is the one around the preservation of native breeds: “We’re taking mushrooms that are rare or locally extinct and preserving them in our lab. Some species only grow in ancient woodland, and as those habitats are destroyed, so are the fungi. We're trying to stop that.” The details Participation fee: £22 per adult / £20 per CRT Friend or Volunteer. Booking is essential as spaces are limited. Sturdy waterproof footwear essential.
