Situated between Churt and Hindhead, Green Farm is a 200-acre wildlife haven of regenerated coppiced chestnut woodland, managed pine plantation, pasture, and precious lowland heathland, one of the rarest habitats on the planet, with the UK having lost 95% of it since mid-Victorian times.

A dedicated team of volunteers implement an ongoing woodland management plan, while 30-acres of the farm is let to a local grazier, and a further 1.75 acres to an enterprise that specialises in growing native flowers. Each year, volunteers also harvest apples from the orchard, which are then donated to a local company for apple juice and cider production.

Green Farm boasts a wonderful variety of birdlife including nightjar, woodcock, redpoll and tawny owl. The CRT is also working in partnership with the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust to monitor reptile populations on the land.

Green Farm Vision

A visionary conservation plan to restore nearly 30 hectares of rare heathland habitat is set to start this year.

The long-term project will involve the careful felling of commercially planted pine trees to return the land to its historic heathland state, one of the UK’s most threatened habitats.
