Bere Marsh Farm Estate Manager

Hannah has overall responsibility for the safe running of Bere Marsh Farm. A practical role that involves animal husbandry, practical habitat management to increase biodiversity and visitor engagement. Working in collaboration with volunteers and the Estate and Community Officer, Hannah provides a welcoming space for people to learn about rural countryside skills, wildlife and food production.

"I grew up on a small-holding on the edge of Dartmoor. I found myself studying Environmental Education after a false start studying Business Management. I'm not one for stocks and shares, but I take great pride in caring for the countryside. After graduating, I had a spell of time with the Barn Owl Trust, a placement in South Africa working for their National Parks, a period of time with the South West Lakes Trust and then many years as a Countryside Officer with Dorset Council."

Hannah joined the CRT in 2023 as our Volunteer Manager, and when the opportunity came up to take on the new Bere Marsh Farm role, she was delighted to be given the chance.

"I've always loved being out and about, and find there's something really special about passing on a new spark of interest to people."

"With more people becoming aware of the pressures our countryside is facing, I think Bere Marsh Farm will provide a crucial link in helping people get closer to wildlife, and to see first-hand how some of the traditional methods of caring for the land can create a diverse and productive farm."

Outside of work, Hannah enjoys exploring new parts of the countryside on foot, cooking and crafting.
